Pavlos Evangelidis
“Maasai Jump”
Wantok Photography was established in May 2017 in Honiara, Solomon Islands. “Wantok” is a Melanesian pidgin word derived from the English “one talk”. In the local culture, it refers to close friendship based on a common language. In a world that is increasingly inter-connected, we feel photography is the universal language, our wantok. Pavlos Evangelidis was born in Athens, Greece and grew up partly in Brussels, Belgium, where he finished the Lycée Français Jean Monnet before graduating with Honours in Civil Engineering at Imperial College, London, UK. He has been working in development aid and international cooperation at the European Commission first in Brussels, then Fiji and the South Pacific region, Solomon Islands & Vanuatu, Uganda and currently Benin. He married Zeenal in Fiji in 2014. Pavlos became interested in photography slowly, first learning about underwater photography techniques and gradually working in nature, wildlife and travel photography. Pavlos & Zeenal established Wantok Photography to promote environmental conservation and help preserve the beauty of our natural capital from the challenges of climate change and human activity. This is a non-profit effort; any profits are directed to selected charities working for this cause.

I admire decorativeness like a kid who collects treasures in an old box, it is such meditative and enjoyable. I love to observe and find my inspiration in nature, in cracks of old houses, in dancing light spots on a wall, on my cat’s fur, and in cabbage leaves… I love to collect textile ornaments and unusable things just because they tell me about beauty and then bring them all together into the surface of my artwork. Maybe someone else will love these as much as I do! My treasure box will bring joy to others.
Lucas Bononi reveals a new body of work titled “The Forest”. This series of oil paintings is an invitation to start a dialogue between human and nature. Paint slams the surface creating a marbling effect of flesh mixed with natures elements. Earth’s features intermingle with figuration and abstraction forcing a return to our core essence. Something like a river or a flame meshes with the subject unveiling a crucial dimension of the human condition. Lucas welcomes you to explore the forest.
