Artist Statement

I could always paint and draw as a child, but never took it seriously as a future profession. It wasn’t until I was 46 or 47 years-old to actually want to paint and sell my work. I had no previous professional training, so I did it the hard way. I chose to use acrylic paint for the very reasons most people don’t like it; it dries too fast; it is too dull. But I overcame the objections and developed my own style of painting vivid and brightly colored original paintings on archival paper and canvas. My initial motivation was my serene surrounding of rural Iowa countryside. However, I quickly moved to representational art some have described as minimalist or cubist style.
